Ranji Trophy in 2005–06

The Ranji Trophy in 2005–06 is a cricket competition played in India. It is India's premier first-class tournament and is competed for by Indian state teams, augmented by teams representing the Indian Railways and Services. The Elite group of teams compete for the trophy itself. They are divided into two groups, with the top two-placed teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals. Below the elite group of teams are two other groups of teams that compete for the Plate competition. Again the two top-placed teams in the two Plate groups progress to semi-finals.
==The teams==
The teams in the Elite Group are as follows:
*Group A: Railways, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bengal, Delhi, Tamil Nadu
*Group B: Punjab, Hyderabad, Haryana, Andhra, Services, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda
The teams competing for the Plate are:
*Group A: Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, Tripura, Vidarbha, Goa, Orissa
*Group B: Rajasthan, Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand
