The Ranji Trophy in 2005–06 is a cricket competition played in India. It is India's premier first-class tournament and is competed for by Indian state teams, augmented by teams representing the Indian Railways and Services. The Elite group of teams compete for the trophy itself. They are divided into two groups, with the top two-placed teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals. Below the elite group of teams are two other groups of teams that compete for the Plate competition.
